Nettle or Stinging Nettle is another plant that has been used for centuries around the world. Ancient Greeks used nettle juice medicinally for many conditions from coughs to snakebites and Roman soldiers rubbed nettle on their skin. Celts, Romans, Native Americans and Romanians would walk through nettles or gently whip it across their backs to increase blood flow and stamina and in some cultures as preparations for hard times. It was also used as a food source in early Spring when other sources of food were scarce and from the Bronze Age through the early 20th century the strong fibers of the stems were used to make cloth, yarn and even paper.

In skin care: Nettle is thought to thicken hair and provide shine as well as help with dandruff. It can be used as a hair rinse, a facial steam for its astringent properties or in topical applications such as a poultice to relieve joint pain and inflammation.

In Tea: A favorite Spring Green, Nettle can be used in more than just tea. Cooking (and drying) destroys the plants sting. Nettle has antihistamine, inflammatory and diuretic properties. It can help treat poor circulation, relieve seasonal allergies, heavy menstrual bleeding and inflammatory skin conditions and help prevent and ease urinary tract infections and kidney stones. Nettle tea is often recommended by herbalists for it’s nutritive value and a general tonic.

In Magic: Folk medicine and lore across the globe attribute it to protection and fertility, it’s widespread use is so vast due to it’s amazing ability to grow in almost any ecosystem.

It can be burned to drive out negativity or unwanted spirits. It can also be used in protection bags or ground into a powder and used in spells. It is also a purifier and can be used in a purifying bath.
